General Guide to Adaptations

Description

  • During small group or centers, invite children to complete a tracing or drawing of their body. Ask permission before tracing children’s body and announce all touches.
  • After completing the tracing, ask children what body parts they have and help them label these parts.
  • Ask children to share how they use their body to meet their needs. Highlight children’s strength and abilities to meet their own needs.

Interactive Lesson

Instruction

  • Modify the activity to focus on tracing a particular body part or completing a drawing instead of a tracing if laying on the floor is a challenge for children.
  • Focus first on labeling body parts, then connect those body parts to needs.
  • Use a picture of the child, a mirror, or a doll for children to reference as they complete their drawing/tracing.
