General Guide to Adaptations

Description

On a walk, narrate your own and children’s actions and observations and encourage children to use their senses:

    • Smelling flowers
    • Watching animals
    • Observing plants move in the wind
    • Touching leaves, rocks, trees
    • Listening to birds, wind, etc.

Interactive Lesson

Environment

Make sure to offer available items at children’s eye level and within reach.

Materials

  • Use high contrast visuals to help children match objects in nature to visuals.
  • Provide children with a visual schedule so they understand the expectations.

Instruction

  • Give children a specific task to encourage participation. “Find a bird.”
  • Model exploration.
