Check out our guide to adaptations. Adapt for environment, materials, instruction.

General Guide to Adaptations

Environment

  • Gather children around a pre-built beam bridge, and introduce a new problem building off the initial bridge build and the extending the weight capacity investigations. “Oh no! It rained and the river is wider! How can we make the bridge longer?
  • Encourage children to explore and combine the available materials and notice the properties of those materials. Help children problem-solve elongating the bridge.

Interactive Lesson

Materials

Provide a variety of materials including ones that are easier to grasp (e.g., softer, bigger objects)

Instruction

Create models of longer bridges (e.g., with extra supports, taping multiple beams together, etc.).
